We are seeking a strategic and data-driven Head of Retention and Email Marketing to lead the vision, strategy, and execution of our customer retention efforts. This is a critical leadership role responsible for engaging our customer base, increasing loyalty, and maximizing customer lifetime value. You will own the entire customer lifecycle post-acquisition, building a multi-channel communication strategy that nurtures relationships and drives business growth. You will manage a talented team and collaborate across the organization to create a truly seamless and impactful customer journey.

Bits of your job:

  • Develop & Execute Retention Strategy: Architect and implement a comprehensive, multi-channel retention strategy across email, SMS, push notifications, and direct mail to nurture customer relationships and drive repeat business.

  • Lead Campaign Management: Oversee the end-to-end management of all retention marketing campaigns, from strategic planning and content creation to deployment, A/B testing, and performance analysis.

  • Champion Customer Lifecycle Marketing: Design and optimize automated customer journeys, triggered campaigns, and loyalty programs that enhance customer engagement and reduce churn.

  • Leverage Data & Analytics: Own the analytics and reporting for all retention channels. Translate complex customer data into actionable insights to continuously optimize campaign performance, personalization, and ROI.

  • Multi-Brand Portfolio Management: Strategically oversee and scale retention efforts across our growing portfolio of 13+ brands, ensuring brand consistency while tailoring strategies to unique customer segments.

  • Drive Segmentation & Personalization: Champion advanced customer segmentation and personalization strategies to deliver targeted, relevant messaging that enhances the customer experience.

  • Ensure Compliance & Deliverability: Oversee and optimize email deliverability, monitor spam rates and sender reputation, and ensure strict compliance with all US-based anti-spam laws and regulations (e.g., CAN-SPAM).

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 7 marketing professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Sales, Creative, and Data teams to ensure a cohesive and consistent customer journey and to align on key business objectives.

  • Industry Expertise: Serve as the internal subject matter expert on retention marketing, staying ahead of industry best practices, emerging trends, and new technologies.

Job requirements

Key expectations:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in a senior retention/email marketing role, with a strong track record of developing successful, large-scale programs.

  • Demonstrated expertise in leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.

  • Deep proficiency with modern marketing automation and CRM platforms (e.g., Bird, Braze, Customer.io, or similar).

  • Exceptional analytical skills with experience using data analysis tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Looker, Tableau) to drive strategy and decision-making.

  • Strong, hands-on proficiency with HTML/CSS for creating and troubleshooting responsive email templates from scratch.

  • Expert knowledge of email deliverability best practices, CAN-SPAM/GDPR regulations, and inbox placement strategies.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Exceptional project management skills: Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and understand urgency in a fast-paced environment across multiple projects and brands.
